I have always liked Laurie Hickson Smith, and I am not ashamed to admit that I want her house.
Decorating junkies like me will recall Laurie back in the days when Trading Spaces was a novelty show. Laurie Smith’s designs always stood head-and-shoulders above the rest. They were serious, they were professional, and they were FABULOUS.
Now I know why.
The woman’s got taste. Check out her book, Discovering Home with Laurie Smith. It is a look at her own home renovation – from start to finish. Along the way, she provides little notes about they why’s and how’s of her selections.
After thumbing through it about a million times, I’ve simply decided I just want to move in. So – move over Ms. Laurie Hickson Smith. I WANT YOUR HOUSE!

She was the best on that show, although Vern was tasteful as well. Remember that wack job that put the feathers all over the wall in the bathroom?? An Doug with that S & M master bedroom? Bring the show back!!!!

I LOVED Laurie’s designs on Trading Spaces. For me, she was the show’s most talented designer. With the design cable networks dying out because of repeats, I can only hope that Laurie comes back to television to show inspire us once again.

Ginnie!
You are absolutely spot on! She WAS the shows best designer. (Why do Vern and Doug always get the kudos???) Maybe we should start an “I Love Laurie” campaign to get her back!
Thanks for reading -

she was the best…she and vern were my faves, even moreso than genevieve(did not care for her designs)…when they started that hgtv show, she should have judged with candace olsen and vern, genevieve smenevieve…

Hi Jonboy! I could not agree more. Was not a fan of Genevieve…but Vern is another story. A show with the two of them plus Candace? That would rock! Thanks for taking the time to comment.

I want Laurie Smith to have her own show!!
I’m tired of seeing cheap designs, using bad color choices and yucky “repurposed” furniture from all these hgtv shows.
I want what Laurie provided on Trading Spaces, a high class look and still staying under budget. She really knows elegant modern.
Mrs. Smith, please come to Beverly Hills, decorate and have a camera crew follow you around!

I miss Trading Spaces. I think success went to their head and they changed the show so much that it wasn’t popular with viewers any more.
For example the show where they gave $50,000 to Laurie Smith and Doug Wilson. The room Doug got had just been recently done by the homewoners and it already looked nice. To think of the people who could have really used a makeover. What a waste.
Another example is when they had two neighbors who had million dollar houses. Imagine decorating a room for $1000 in a million dollar house. One lady wanted her dining room done and she already had a 24,000 dining room set. I think they just wanted to be on TV. I guess the producers were too lazy to find people who really needed a room redone.
