One Kings Lane – Great Site for Frugal Design and Deals

One Kings Lane – Great Site for Frugal Design and Deals

aOne Kings Lane

I just recently discovered a great site for designer bargins – One Kings Lane!

The philosophy at One Kings Lane is certainly one that I share, and the whole basis of FrugalDesignGirl.com:

“…living well should be an affordable reality.”

While founders Susan Feldman and Alison Gelb Pincus were living in Manhattan, they loved attending private sample sales. After moving to the West Coast, they realized a void of “shopping destinations that offered the remarkable deals of a sample sale, but with top quality, curated goods (no need to dig for great finds!)” which could be “accessed from the convenience of home (or the office).”

So, they created One Kings Lane as a members-only site offering designer home décor products and accessories at prices up to 70% off retail. (Membership is free.)

The site is somewhat limiting – only a few lines are offered at one time – but the deals are definitely to be had! For instance this Mirror Image Linen Khaki Sea Fan wall decoration retails at $235. One Kings Lane is offering it at $109.

You have to check back frequently, as offerings change and sales are slotted to begin on different days and times. There is, however, a calendar so that you are privy to up-coming deals.

There is also a FANTASTIC section on the site dedicated to interviews with both seasoned and up-and-coming designers. The interviews offer photos of the designer’s work as well as their personal designer tips!

One Kings Lane is definitely worth perusing. Talk about inspiration!

“I tried to mix elegance with comfort, because even though I don’t live an elegant lifestyle, I like to feel like I do.” (Amanda Nesbit in an interview with Carol Prisat for House Beautiful)

Remember when I promised to bring you some really cool finds?

Well, my friends over at Addicted 2 Decorating did a great piece on colorful rooms yesterday, and included a photo from one of my favorite designers – Amanda Nisbet – which I knew I just had to share!

Most likely, you’ve encountered Amanda’s work before. Her designs have been published frequently in Elle Decor, House Beautiful, Southern Accents, House and Garden, Traditional Home, Home, Town and Country, the Washington Post, the New York Times and countless top-notch design blogs…and rightly so! Her bold and colorful rooms are simply breathtaking.

Who knew that she was also a frugal design girl at heart! In that same interview for House Beautiful, Amanda said,

Everything doesn’t have to be wildly expensive when you decorate. I don’t think anyone should take all this too seriously. I like to think I walk a very careful line between tasteful and tacky!”

Amanda’s colorful rooms are anything but tacky! Enjoy and be inspired!

A reader (okay…technically, she’s a good friend…but she does read the blog!) sent me this frugal find – task lighting.

Doesn’t the lamp shown above from Target look a lot like this task lighting from Restoration Hardware?

If you have a frugal find, send it to Frugal Design Girl and we will post it for all to see!

Some Really Unique Wall Art

Some Really Unique Wall Art

Well, we covered inexpensive art for your home. How about some really unique wall art?

Artist Erin Smith’s work is among some of the quirkiest I have encountered…and I love it!

According to the artist’s own site, her work is, “the result of a mixed media process that includes original painting, digital imaging, vintage family photographs, and the artist’s own meandering prose.”

I don’t know if I would classify it “meandering prose” as much as I would classify it insanely creative and simply hilarious.

In my opinion, every house should have a little unexpected and unique wall art lurking about. Check out Erin’s website and you will see that her giclee prints are just that.

Here are a few more of my favorites for you to enjoy!
